about

In the 90's Tori Amos toured fanatically and her fanatical fans followed her every move. I was one of them. I had a chance to talk to her lots of times, and it culminated in a meeting in 2001 at the Daughters of the American Revolution Hall in Washington, D.C.

We talked about how she came up playing piano in the gay bars around that area, and specifically about a seedy gay bar in Dupont Circle called "Mr. P's".

This song is lyrically obtuse, but to me it's about a very specific time in queer culture, and even moreso in my own life. That bus ride never truly ends.

Note the lyric sheet here that Tori signed has slightly different lyrics than what are sung. This song has evolved so much it's really its own creature.

lyrics

Don't know where
but I'm sure we'll soon find out
where we're goin', I said

Don't know... reruns of Caddyshack
Om la bom la bi-de-la-day
Don't know where the Dalai Lama is today
Don't know where
My heart is running to

Before you turn around
Before you turn around
I think I'll lose...whatever

With each day now I'm tasting the snow
beneath my soul, beneath the souls of my souls
With each day now, you and me now
They... om le bombleigh

Say, don't know where that bus ride is taking me
and Johnny
and Mr. P

Hold my hand
Please, hold my hand
Om le bombleigh
