about

"Chemical" is a song inspired by the depression so many people have succumbed to during the 2020 global pandemic. The song's 70's-style grooves and quick, odd tempo changes disguise a somewhat dark song about giving in to your emotional demons during a time when you can't touch anyone and have to stay distant from humanity.

The vocals go intentionally wobbly and get stronger as they progress, emblematic of the strength one gains when accepting their condition.

lyrics

I don't know how it began
but from an examined point of view
it's getting worse

I'm wasting away
Send the provisions
Don't go! Hear the ground pound
There's nothing and no one out there

Contact breaking down the walls
and deconstructing everything
Contact making me insane
Feel a little more ashamed
but it's the duty of the meek
to kiss the apple of the cheek
of each and every wicked one
underneath the blinding sun

So let the reticent unite
amidst the strain of public life
and when there's no one left to blame
it's just a chemical in the brain

So let me forgive them,
the frightfully animated heads
and interchangeable words

Imagine.

So carried away
We laugh as we raise our glasses in the air and say

"Life! Isn't it nice?
Especially in sensitive times!"

Contact breaking down the walls
and decompressing everything
Contact making me insane
Feel a little less ashamed
but it's the duty of the meek
to fuck the apple of the cheek
of each and every wicked one
underneath God's blinding sun

So let the reticent unite
to meet the strain of public life
and when there's no one left to blame
it's just a chemical in the brain

Fall
Give in
Look at yourself
Just fall in
Just open your eyes

'cause sunny is as sunny does
and life? It has no cure

Don't be alarmed, it's a chemical
Don't be alaramed
It's a chemical in the brain
